From Craig Blodgett: Three of our high school guys began and ended the 21 day fast together. They had never done a fast this long before. They knew from the beginning they needed one another to help get through it. Not only did they get through but they thrived. They encouraged and held each other accountable in fasting from the same thing. Here is what two of them said about their experience.

“It was a great experience. It opened my eyes to how much I missed out on God. During the fast I prayed and read my Bible more than I ever would have (and still do!). I love it”

“I recognized I didn’t need to have it [what I fasted from] to be happy. Fasting gave me the opportunity to focus on the important things in life and the confidence to say ‘no’ when I desire it.”

From Terry Glasepy: My 21 day fast was from Facebook.  I did not want to give up food because I tend to turn that into a diet instead of focusing on God.  Instead of going on Facebook, I did a bible study from my You Version Bible App on my phone. The goal was to spend the time I had used on facebook studying, reading and praying.  It has been great to move closer to Christ and learn more of him. Also, I loved the daily encouragement from all of the staff. They helped focus me and encouraged us to keep on track.  It is so good to get different perspectives.

From Meagan Bergem:  In full disclosure there were times during the 21-day fast that I did not want to walk in the way of discipline. Something about our nature as humans just wants to rebel against what is best. Yet God is faithful in drawing us to his presence over and over again. These are what I call come to Jesus moments. Whether it is an attitude adjustment, strength to overcome temptation, or a need to surrender fully to God, I find myself often having these come to Jesus times. This season has helped me see God's love more abundantly as fasting has cleared away the distractions and addictions. Hearing clearly his Spirit leading my words, joy, and love towards others. I noticed the more I receive God's love for myself my capacity to love others increases. While reflecting on this experience, I see how my own insecurities and fears have caused me to not love others well. When I function out of confidence in God's love for me and others my heart grows in compassion and care for people.

The prayer and worship gathering at Fresno Pacific University was a blessing to me and many others. Fasting as a broader Christian community has brought about empowerment, encouragement and a renewed energy for our city. I have come to have a deeper appreciation for fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Praising God with people from 70+ church bodies was a beautiful reflection of God's kingdom come here on earth. This experience got me super excited for heaven someday. God is good.
