God is at work among us!  This fall our four new 5th/6th grade teachers, Chris & Trish Armstrong and Curtis & Elizabeth Smith, embarked on a new preteen ministry called Area 56. Their preteen lessons began with a Back 2 School series, where they talked and learned about some big issues that preteens face at school and how to share the love of Jesus with their schoolmates—what a mission field! The Armstrong’s and Smith’s also transformed Room 201 into a tastefully colored, inviting classroom, with scripture-based wall hangings and a very cool prayer wall that once was a bulletin board. They scrubbed, patched, and painted the walls in warm neutral beige, accenting a few walls with a beautiful, feel-good turquoise hue.

Stop by and see it, and encourage our 5th and 6th graders in their walk with Christ, too.

That’s not all folks! A few weeks ago Barbara Knepper and Kim Lee, our 1st/2nd grade teachers, began Family Fun Fridays for their students and families-even grandmas, grandpas, and friends.  Once a month they’ll gather in each other’s homes for an activity, games and a snack.

We gathered for the September event at the Lee’s home. Kids took a medium pumpkin (with its top removed), filled it with mulchy dirt, leaving the stirred seeds inside. As they prepared the pumpkins they learned about John 15:5, remaining in Christ and bearing much fruit. Kids will water each day at home and watch the seeds grow. There were fun games on the lawn, including a netted trampoline, (a highlight of the night).

It was a lively and enjoyable evening with a whopping 60 people in attendance. It surely was a relaxing night for adults to enjoy being with one another and making memories with their children.

Praise be to God for showing us how to engage together in Christ’s work of making disciples for the redeeming transformation of our city.
