Dear First Pres,

Have you ever sat back and remembered old dreams? Sometimes, the dreams are weird like the time I watched my brother fold a watermelon like a t-shirt. Sometimes, they are heartwarming like when a loved one visits and chats. Well, for me, I often sit back and think about the dreams from my first few years in Fresno.

In one of my most memorable dreams I was sitting in the backyard and college students were sitting around me. In the dream, I didn’t know the names of the people or where we were exactly. I do know it felt right. At the time, I just woke up and went on with my day. It was exciting to think about a backyard full of college students, but I had no idea where to put that dream. However, after a year like we have had, one full of separation, anxiety, and stress, I go back to that dream. I may not remember the specifics of the conversations, but I remember the joy on the faces of each individual in the yard. I don’t remember where we were, but I remember that each person was right where they belonged. The details may be a little hazy now, but I do think it felt like heaven.

Over the last few weeks of this summer, God has been reminding me of that backyard. With great joy, I have watched the Samuelian’s backyard be filled with smiling faces and joy, and college students being right where they belong. They have been listening to the Gospel of Jesus Christ from peers, they are playing Spike Ball, Cornhole, and racing in the pool. They sit and play Bananagrams, tell stories of their weeks, and eat pizza rolls (which are a bigger hit than I expected)! Honestly, it is like heaven here on earth.

So, family, I ask you where God is fulfilling your dreams? Have you asked God recently to give you dreams for your life, your family, church, or for Fresno? Great things are coming and we get to be a part of it! I encourage you to look around and see where God is inviting you to bring a slice of heaven. For me, it is Monday nights at 6:45pm in the backyard of Ronnie and Kelli Samuelian when college students are getting a taste!

Shalom,
