Dear First Pres,

Welcome to February. This is going to be a big month for FPC. Let me share a few important updates with you.

Super Sunday

Sunday, February 12 is Super Sunday at FPC. That means we have one worship service and our annual congregational meeting. So, here’s the deal. I really encourage you to prioritize this on your calendar. That other “super” thing that happens on February 12 doesn’t kick off until 3:30. We’ll be done hours before that, I promise.

The one worship service starts at 9:30. I have an important message to preach that day with all of us in the room together, so I encourage you to be there. Then, after a quick break, we’ll start our Annual Meeting at 10:30.

If you’ve never been to one of these meetings, (or haven’t been in years) it’s not what you might be thinking. The Annual Meeting is one of our most exciting gatherings of the year. People leave encouraged, excited, informed and energized for the vision and mission that God has given our church.

Plus, this year, we have a very special and exciting announcement to make at the meeting that I don’t think you’re going to want to miss.

“FPC Conversations” Podcast

One of my realities over the last 10 years as the Senior Pastor of FPC Fresno has been a sense that most of us are really unaware of how the Lord is at work in and through our congregation. That’s why I was really grateful for the work of some guys in our church to launch a new podcast that simply focused on telling the stories of what God is doing in and through us. Have you ever wondered what happens in a pastor during a sabbatical or how a person keeps faith in the midst of becoming a widow or what it’s like to step into a new career or how it feels to move across the country to follow God’s call? Well, consider those a little preview of the first four episodes. The first episode of the podcast is live today. You can find it wherever you find your podcasts. Just search for “FPC Conversations.” You’re gonna be encouraged.

Communion

This Sunday is the first Sunday of the month, which means we’ll be sharing in the Lord’s Supper together. Have you ever considered how important of a practice this is for us to engage in together? We don’t believe that the Lord’s Supper is just a memorial event, where we work to remember the incredible sacrifice of Jesus. We believe that God by His Spirit uses the Lord’s Supper to nurture our faith and build us up in Christ. In other words, we believe something miraculous happens in us as we share in the meal together. No, we don’t believe that the bread and juice actually become the body and blood of Jesus, but we do believe the Holy Spirit uses it to make us more like Jesus. I encourage you to be with us this weekend for worship at 9 and 10:45 as we share this precious meal together.

Blessings,

Jeremy
