Dear First Pres,

I’m excited! You may not realize it, but this coming Sunday is shaping up to be a very exciting morning. No, it’s not Palm Sunday or Maundy Thursday or Easter.  No, it’s not Communion Sunday. It’s just the fifth Sunday of Lent. But still, this fifth Sunday of Lent in 2023 will mark a new era in the life of our congregation in more ways than one.

Curious? I hope so. And, I hope it’s just another incentive to join your church family for worship on Sunday.

Of course, Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Easter are coming soon. Please join me in praying for the Lord to stir the hearts of those we invite to join us. May the Lord stir the hearts of those who’ve been disconnected from church. May the Lord stir the hearts of those who are obligated to come with their families. May the Lord stir the hearts of those who are curious about Christ in you. And may the Lord stir our hearts for the disconnected, the disbelieving, and the disillusioned. I’m especially praying for the Lord to give you the courage to invite your neighbors, coworkers, family and friends.

All of us came to faith in Jesus and became part of His people in response to an invitation. Even those of us who grew up with Christian parents, like me, at some point in the family’s history there was an invitation that changed the family forever. Have you ever thought about that? Praise God for the people that invited you. Thank God for the people that invited your ancestors.

Now, just consider how the Lord might use a simple invitation or encouragement from you to change a family forever. That’s how the Holy Spirit works. So, may the Lord give us courage to simply invite.

Blessings,

Jeremy
