Dear First Pres,

This coming Sunday we launch a brand new sermon series. But before I tell you about that, let me first just ask, “How did the Lord work in your heart through our study of Matthew 5:1-16?” I was grateful for Jon Jo’s testimony in last week’s letter. My prayer is that you learned to appreciate and love the King’s heart more deeply than before, and that your heart became a little more like His.

Did you work at memorizing the verses? I hope so. And remember, any time spent reflecting and meditating on God’s Holy Word is edifying. Don’t get hung up on the performance. We don’t memorize verses to impress God or other church folks. As Psalm 1 says, “Blessed is the one whose … delight is in the torah (instruction, teaching, direction, precepts, law) of the LORD.” If you didn’t get all the verses down, I encourage you to keep working on it. Only good and blessing will come from meditating on Jesus’ blessings and encouragement.

So, now what? Starting Sunday is a new sermon series called “Live Like Jesus.” Now that we’ve spent some weeks focused on knowing Jesus’ heart, it’s time to spend some weeks considering what it looks like to live on mission with Him. Being a disciple of Jesus means learning to live like He lived. The only way that’s possible is for the Holy Spirit to keep transforming and empowering us to be more like Jesus, but one of the ways that the Spirit does that work is through a careful study of Jesus’ life and ministry.

In John 14:12, Jesus says, “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.” My prayer is that this sermon series will inspire and equip us to live into the incredible invitation of this verse. May the Holy Spirit truly help us to live like Jesus so that in us and through us it will be in Fresno as it is in heaven.

See ya Sunday.

Blessings,

Jeremy
