Dear First Pres,

Last week I attended the Fresno/Clovis Prayer Breakfast. The featured speaker was the Rev. Dr. David Jeremiah. His message was about prayer (of course); he called us to be praying personally, persistently, and particularly. He wonderfully reminded us that God is not reluctant to give us what we need. Praise be to God who listens to our prayers, works in us through our prayers, and always answers our prayers.

I believe this is a season when we need to be drawing near to the Lord in prayer.  Here's why:

Lent is a season to return to the Lord and renew our hearts in Christ. So we need to be praying that God would draw each of us to His throne of grace.

Easter Sunday is our highest attended Sunday of the year. There are always people who come (especially when you invite them) who don't yet know Christ as their Lord and Savior. So we need to be praying that God would draw others to faith in Christ. As we do that, let's remember to be praying particularly for the people that God puts on our hearts.

Our leadership teams have some important decisions to make as we do the work of aligning our ministries and strategies with our purpose and values.  We need wisdom and discernment from the Lord as we wait on Him together.

Even as we wait on Him, God is doing some wonderful things among us. Let us give thanks to Him for His sovereign grace.

How are you praying these days?  Are you praying personally, persistently, and particularly? Are you inquiring of the Lord about your decisions? Are you praying for the unity and mission of your church? There are still a few more weeks of this Lenten season.  I pray that it's a season of return and renewal for you.

Blessings,

P.S. I invite you to join me for prayer on Thursday mornings during Lent in the Commons. We pray from 6:30 - 7:15 a.m.
