Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!  I’m anxious to share with you how God was at work during Vacation Bible School last week under the very capable and joyful direction of Cindy Sterling and a VBS team of 50 talented volunteers, many of whom were our gifted youth.

110 preschool to sixth grade children attended Everest VBS, FPCers and neighbors, Bethany Church, Marjorie Mason Center and our church neighborhood. Our volunteers lovingly came alongside our students to teach them how to conquer life’s challenges with God’s mighty power.  We learned that God has the power to provide, comfort, heal, forgive, and to love us forever.  We heard stories about God’s provision, comfort, healing, forgiveness through the sacrificial death of Jesus; and power that loves us and provides an eternal home called Heaven.

Each day children brought hard-earned, piggy-bank offerings to give to those who have been harmed by the Nepal earthquake.  They raised a whopping $1,000, praise be to God!  These monies will be sent to World Relief through the EPC.  We celebrated with snow cones on our last day together!

The children discovered how to see everyday clues of God’s presence and power:  something we called God Sightings.  God is active in our lives.  He hasn’t retired, you know.  We can see God in things like Scripture, people, circumstances, and nature.  We learned to take the time each day to look with a God-focused view and a grateful heart.

Some of the God Sightings I saw last week: our faithful custodians, Oscar and Freddie, lending swift and capable assistance with a servant’s heart; the formation of new friendships as we served alongside one another; children praying with softened hearts for a young girl needing God’s comfort when her beloved grandfather recently died; intergenerational moments of playfulness and meaningful conversations; children realizing that they aren’t too young to lead someone, even an adult, to Jesus.

Let’s be on the lookout for God sightings each day and then give God credit where credit is due.  I believe it will renew a vibrant faith within us and among us as a church family.

Blessings to you,
