Dear First Pres,

Happy New Year! I know it's already the 7th day of 2016, but it still feels new to me. And I couldn't be more excited about an invitation for our church to participate with dozens of other churches around Fresno and Clovis in a special new year event. Over the last few years a small band of churches have been joining together to start the year with a corporate season of prayer and fasting. This year, through the network of the Pastors Clusters (regional groups that meet all over Fresno/Clovis), that small band is growing exponentially. We're hoping to have 100 churches participate in 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, and I'd like First Presbyterian Church to be in that number.

Will you consider joining with me in this special season of prayer and fasting? The corporate focus of the 21 Days is to pray for repentance, revival, unity, and drought ending rain. It starts on Monday, January 11and concludes on Sunday evening, January 31 with an End of Fast Celebration at Fresno Pacific University. I know that many of you choose to do a partial fast during Lent. This year I'm inviting you to do the same for these 21 days.

Some of you may have questions about fasting: What is fasting? Why should we fast? How do I fast?  To answer those questions, we have a concise resource available on our website. I encourage you to check it out.

I believe that a corporate season of prayer and fasting can be a transformational experience. I can hardly think of a better way to launch this new year than to humble ourselves before God by abstaining from some physical gratification in pursuit of a greater spiritual goal. I hope you'll consider how the Lord would have you participate.

One of the ways that you can participate is to come to the Prayer and Praise Night on Wednesday, January 13. Look for details below.  Also, if you need some inspiration for your prayer life, Cornerstone Church is providing a free showing of the movie War Room at the Wilson Theater 6pm this Sunday evening, January 10.

Let's turn our hearts to the Lord in prayer and fasting for these 21 days and wait with high expectation for what He will do in and through His Church.

Blessings,
