Dear First Pres,

If you've been praying through the Seek God for the City 2016 prayer guide, you know that since Sunday we've been praying for Christ's light to awaken those who do not know Him. I've loved praying these prayers. They've put extended family members, friends, and neighbors who aren't followers of Christ right in the center of my prayer and thought life. These prayers, for "God's light to bring abundant life" and for "God to prevail over powers of darkness" and for "the Word of God to be understood," have focused and sharpened my prayers for these loved ones. And I believe, that as Christians all over the country are praying these prayers together, God is answering our prayers. He is bringing people - some old, some young, some wealthy, some poor, some in prisons, some on university campuses, some who've been in church their entire life, and some who've adhered to other religions - God is bringing people to faith in Christ today. Praise Him!

Of course, we want to be right in the middle of that work; don't we?  We want our church to be a community who is regularly walking with others as they join the family of Christian faith. That's why we're making all this effort to get folks to participate in our Church Vitality Weekend. I know there are many of you who simply can't come to the Friday-Saturday workshop. Still, I hope you make it a priority to be here on Sunday. Rev. Dr. Ken Priddy will be preaching in worship and leading an Education Hour class. Please plan to come for both hours (as many of you already do). I'm convinced that this is going to be an incredibly important weekend for the future of our church. So, please be praying that God uses it in powerful ways among us to help us be the church that He is calling us to be.

Finally, as we pray for His Light to awaken the lost, I encourage you to write down the names of those that the Lord brings to mind who need the Lord. Pray for them regularly between now and Easter. Ask the Lord to provide opportunities for you to share your faith with them. Come back to these pages of the prayer guide to reignite your prayers. And trust that the Lord is working His will. May He indeed rescue people from spiritual darkness through the light of our witness.

Blessings,
